I have been a member of Girlguiding for over 30 years. I enjoyed being a Brownie, Guide & Ranger. I have been a Leader helping with Brownie & Guide Units. I have had County & District level roles including Young Leader advisor,
Area secretary, District Commissioner, Leadership & Commissioner mentor. I am currently a member of the Trefoil Guild and a Leadership mentor. I am also a member of the Scout association; I have helped at the joint Scout & Guide
international camps that were held every 5 years in Derbyshire. I currently assist on the County arts and craft team when possible.

I became in involved with Jam Roll through my late husband, Steve Hilditch (MBE). We attended the world Scout jamboree at Gilwell in 2007. Jam Roll was on display in front of the White house. The car was in need of some attention, it was in private ownership at the time. Steve, Tony Harvey, John Ineson and Michael Baden Powell began to consider the idea of forming a charity to look after & promote Jam Roll. Patrons were found and the idea of BP Jam Roll Ltd became a reality. The 4 founder trustees worked hard to find specialist volunteers to maintain Jam Roll and to take the car to some Scouting events. Merchandising began. I became a trustee with Tom Stoddart when Steve could
no longer continue the role. It is pleasing that Jam Roll can move forward once again with new Trustees to continue the objectives of the charity.

I started Scouting a few weeks after my 8th birthday as a Wolf Cub and never left. I have been a Cub, Scout, Venture Scout, Cub Scout leader, Scout leader, ADC, ACC, CC, and worked on several national initiatives before becoming Chair of the then National Cub Scout team. I have organised several Regional Cub and later Cub and Beaver leaders’ camps.

Jam Roll first came to my attention when it was purchased in 2007 this via Steve Hilditch (MBE) one of the original team that acquired JR. I was instrumental in helping Steve get it into Rolls-Royce Heritage where a team of retired engineers got it into a working presentable, safe condition. It was intended that I would work with Steve once I had finished as CC for Derbyshire. Sadly, Steve passed away far too soon and I replaced him as a trustee of JR. Since then, together with a Mr Reg White we have maintained and looked after JR effecting many repairs needed to keep it on the road as well as taking it to various events. I loved being a Brownie in Hong Kong, and I have volunteered in Girlguiding and Scouting intermittently since I was 18. I volunteered with Kea Scouts (Beavers) in New Zealand and Cub Scouts in North Devon. I am now a Gilwell Fellow, a District support volunteer in Chelmsford, Essex and trustee for my son’s Scout group. Meanwhile, I’m also a Brownie and Ranger leader and a District commissioner for GirlGuiding in Chelmsford. So I have a foot firmly in both camps, sometimes literally!
 
I first saw Jam Roll when my grandmother, Betty Clay, got the chance to drive it again. Jam Roll was given to her father, B-P, when she was about 12, and it was a family car – even the first car she learned to drive! Seeing her delight and love for Jam Roll sparked my passion for the car. I also know how important Jam Roll was to my “Uncle Mike”, Michael Baden-Powell, who was one of the founding members of the Jam Roll Ltd Trust. So I’m delighted to now represent my family as a trustee; and in the role of Chair I look forward to steering Jam Roll into the future.
